Initial Application
To become a certified CNA instructor, you must first contact the Board's Licensure and Certification Department to learn if you will qualify for instructor certification. (Applications for initial certification are not available on line.)

To become a certified CNA instructor, you must:

  • Hold a permanent RN nursing license in Nevada

  • Have two years of nursing experience

  • Have one year experience in the care of the elderly or chronically ill (must provide a letter on letterhead from a current or past employer verifying one year of experience in caring for the elderly or chronically ill)

  • Have no disciplinary action, administrative action, or any complaints pending against your license

  • Complete the Board-approved Train-the-Trainer course at the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, or Truckee Meadows Community College*

  • Complete the instructor application

  • Submit fee of $100

*The Board screens interested individuals for qualifications before they enroll in the Train-the-Trainer course)
